440 Gallery’s avant-garde music series curated by Michel Gentile Sunday, October 1 @ 4:40 PM Suggested donation $10
Me Myself and Eye, Michel Gentile and 440 Gallery are pleased to present an afternoon of jazz guitar by André Matos. Since the age of nine, Portuguese-native Matos has played and developed a deep love of guitar that has been influenced by the blues of Muddy Waters and BB King, and later developed through study and work with artists such as Danilo Perez, Tony Malaby and Jerry Bergonzi. He attended Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music. A New York City resident since 2008, André regularly presents his music at venues such as Joe’s Pub, Rockwood Music Hall, BAM Café and Zinc Bar, and he has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Australia and Europe.
“The Portuguese jazz guitarist André Matos has a beautiful new self-released album, Lagarto (2012), which highlights his capacity for fluid lyricism,” Nate Chinen, The New York Times.
