Thomas Duncan Gallery presents a solo exhibition of new work by Los Angeles-based artist Sean Kennedy, on view May 31st – July 7th.
The show is comprised of a series of wall pieces consisting of synthetic suede stretched over panels and several works in which objects are placed on top of framed, clear acrylic glass panes that hang overhead, between ceiling and floor. The objects in these works are stored, concealed, fabricated, arranged, displayed, bagged, framed, handled, shelved, crafted, put away, revealed, junked, substituted, elevated, evened out, reorganized, degraded, shaken, stirred, typecast, respected, represented, projected, instrumentalized, suspended, flattened, relieved, commodified, transferred, exchanged, collected, neglected, plasticized, and homogenized causing the framed acrylic to function as panels, containers, frames, shelves, drawers, trays, grounds, scanner beds, display devices, windows, screens, filters, receptacles, tables, facades, substrates, mediators, venues, mediums, vehicles, interfaces, slides, picture planes, and stages, or as effects thereof.
What are the preconditions of image consumption/production? Where does the translation of material to information occur? Do images evaporate?
Sean Kennedy studied at the Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main, Germany and received his MFA from the University of Southern California.
