Polkadot Partners with BitBasel’s “Art for Impact” to send Art to the Moon

Polkadot, a leading blockchain ecosystem, has teamed up with BitBasel’s Art for Impact Space Program to send purpose-driven artwork to the Moon. The initiative invites global artists to create pieces inspired by the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will be preserved in a lunar archive for future generations.

Selected artworks will be part of the Galactic Library Preserve Humanity (GLPH) payload, scheduled for launch on Astrobotic’s Griffin-1 lunar mission under NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program. Using Nanofiche—a durable, space-grade archival technology—the artworks will withstand the Moon’s harsh environment, remaining intact for billions of years.

Polkadot, known for its sustainable Web3 infrastructure, is supporting BitBasel in mobilizing artists to submit visual works centered on key SDGs, such as climate action, gender equality, and clean energy. Eligible submissions include digital art, photography, illustrations, and mixed media, provided they can be represented as still imagery.

A curation committee featuring representatives from BitBasel, Polkadot, GLPH, and the University of Florida Blockchain Lab will review entries and select the final artworks. Chosen artists will receive recognition as contributors to this historic space mission.

“This is a chance for creators to leave a lasting legacy beyond Earth,” said Scott Spiegel, BitBasel Co-founder & CEO.

The archive is set to launch aboard a SpaceX rocket later this year.
