Major Sculptures Installed on Park Avenue on September 12th

The first-ever, large-scale outdoor exhibition in the U.S. of famed French artists, Claude and Francois-Xavier Lalanne’s sculptures. On September 12th beginning at 10:30 AM, Park Avenue between 52nd and 57th Streets will be transformed into a public exhibition space for the fanciful work of Claude & Francois-Xavier Lalanne as a 50 foot tall crane begins placing these monumental works ranging from 1,000 lbs. – 2,000 lbs. in eight different locations along Park Avenue.

Featured works include Francois-Xavier Lalanne’s (1927-2008) last sculpture, Singe Avise (Tres Grand), a cross-legged monkey with a pensive expression (located on the North side of 57th Street); Claude’s Choupatte (Tres Grand), an anthropomorphized cabbage with bird’s feet, textured and colored by verdigris (South side of 54th); Nouveau Lapin de Victoire, 2007, a cane-carrying rabbit standing upright (North side of 54th Street); Oiseau de nuit (grand) 2004, an owl perched knowingly atop a bronze pedestal (South side of 55th Street); Wapiti, 1996, a North-American deer looking over its shoulder (South side of 53rd Street); and Francois-Xavier’s Moutons, 1988-1994, which features a life-size flock of twelve sheep and lambs, crafted from epoxy and bronze (between 52nd & 53rd Streets).
