Smoothly articulating his acrylic paintings in vivacious primary colors, Chilean-born artist Guillermo Del Valle depicts the mystery in everyday life.
Almost surrealistic in aesthetic and theme, Del Valle creates a world populated with the ghosts of people. His works emanating a palpable silence, he realistically depicts landscapes and city scenes with a palpable passion for the physical and psychical world. This is an artist who paints in order to craft narratives, pulling us into his canvases with a sense of intrigue. “The paintings should make the public feel that they are a sort of voyeurs against time, like observers of the painful mania of thinking about what could have been or what never was, what lasted and what didn’t,” says Del Valle. Indeed, the solitude of the scenes in these small vignettes is enchanting, so that our imaginations are provoked to reconsider our own stories.
Guillermo Del Valle was active in revolutionary Chilean politics, and dedicated most of his life to providing services and energy to people in his country and beyond. He currently lives and works in Barcelona, Spain.
