After a successful three-month run, the Yokohama Triennale 2011 came to a close on November 6. Visitor numbers totaled over 300,000 for the duration of the exhibition. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all those who visited the Triennale this year.

Due to the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, we were faced with a range of unexpected circumstances during preparations in the run-up to this year’s Triennale, such as calls for power conservation and other energy-saving campaigns. In particular, we are extremely grateful to all foreign visitors who made the trip to Yokohama in the face of this precarious and uncertain state of affairs.

This year’s 4th Yokohama Triennale was the first edition that utilized the Yokohama Museum of Art as one of the main venues. The Triennale showcased a diverse range of artworks, centered on the Yokohama Museum of Art and NYK Waterfront Warehouse, extending to the city’s historical buildings and outdoor spaces. As a result, we have been able to attract a wide audience ranging from children to senior citizens.

We are currently in the preliminary stages of preparing for the next edition of the Yokohama Triennale, scheduled to be held in three years’ time. It will be our pleasure to welcome all visitors back to Yokohama in 2014!
