Oliver Clare Still Life’s for Fellows & Sons Sale

A group of paintings by the still-life artist Oliver Clare will be auctioned by Birmingham based auctioneers Fellows & Sons on Tuesday 25 August.

Clare was the son of George Clare and the brother of Vincent all of whom were prolific artists. Throughout his life, Clare exhibited a number of his works; a few in Suffolk and London, but most at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham. The Antique & Later Furniture, Toys, Dolls & Paintings auction will see Clare return to Birmingham with a collection of seven paintings. They will be auctioned in five lots with estimates that range from £900 – £1,500.

The paintings included in the auction are all still lifes of fresh fruit and flowers on a mossy bank, a subject Clare focused on throughout his painting career. They also exhibit his delicate painting style of small, fine brushstrokes which appear almost invisible to the naked eye.

Also included in the auction are two paintings by the artist’s brother, Vincent Clare. The paintings will be auctioned together and have been given an estimate of £500 – £800.

The auction will be held at Fellows & Sons in Augusta Street, Birmingham. The auction contains over 500 lots and all items can be viewed on the website at www.fellows.co.uk.
