The Brooklyn Invasion: 440 Gallery Pops Up in TriBeCa

Brooklyn, NY– The Beatles did it and now so will 440 Gallery, a small but thriving gallery in Brooklyn. Representing 14 artists the gallery will install a pop up exhibition, the first outside their home turf, at 62 Walker Street, between Broadway and Church Street in Manhattan, from February 21 – 23, 2014. There will be an opening reception on February 21, 6-8 PM, and the exhibition will be open on Saturday, February 22, 10 AM – 7 PM, and on Sunday, February 23, 11 AM – 6 PM. The gallery will show a variety of styles and media, including drawing, painting, photography, constructed relief, digital, and printmaking.

Established nine years ago in Park Slope the 440 Gallery has flourished as something of an outlier in a neighborhood less known for galleries than the artist enclaves of Williamsburg or Bushwick. The tightly knit artist-run collective has developed a solid reputation not only for the caliber of its regular members’ shows but also for its annual open call exhibitions which attract national participation. Not restricted to the exclusivity contracts of commercial galleries, the individual artist members of the 440 collective also exhibit and sell their work through other galleries and venues.

Included in this Brooklyn invasion of Manhattan are Vicki Behm, Fred Bendheim,Tom Bovo, Ellen Chuse, Shanee Epstein, Gail Flanery, Jay Friedenberg, Karen Gibbons, Susan Greenstein, Katharine Colona Hopkins, Laurie Lee-Georgescu, Nancy Lunsford, Amy Williams and Ella Yang.
