Lynne Hudson’s work is filled with light and with intense and expressionistic colors, so that her renditions of Renaissance-inspired figures take on an almost fin-de-siècle Symbolist nature. They are infused with a spiritual connection to something powerful, yet maintain an appealingly whimsical air. These large acrylic paintings portray forms that are flawlessly modeled, passionately emotional and fancifully mannered. Hudson’s control of brushstroke and color is sophisticated, sweeping the viewer along and into the depths of the image. The dripping paint in the background adds a fantastical quality to the work, representing a curtain that calls into question notions of reality and imagination. The backdrop is theatrical, larger than life, making the subjects every bit as formidable as their sixteenth century counterparts. Even Hudson’s contemporary “Everyman” is rendered with Renaissance grandeur. Using her personal technique of mixing solvents and gels to produce extraordinary colors, the artist provides her oeuvre with a unique aesthetic.
Based in Queensland, Australia, Lynne Hudson has been a professional artist for most of her life. She has had numerous exhibitions throughout her homeland and runs a successful studio.
