Drolet. New Canadian Watercolor at Agora Gallery

Sylvie Drolet’s delicate, petite-sized works of watercolor on paper explore the abstract language of residues, traces, scars, marks and bleeds as a form of vivid emotional communication. Soft in approach and dynamic in scope, the works offer ‘borderless’ visions of the human capacity for passion, sentiment and expansive emotionality. Bright colors dominate Drolet’s rhythmic palette, especially aquamarine, yellows, teals, lime, crimson and neon orange with occasional marks in semi-translucent black, gray and indigo to anchor the paintings’ sweetly effervescent character. As a body of work her paintings comment on artistic associations with the psycho-physiological impact of illicit recreational drugs.
