The Nevada Arts Council presents “Distilled” a series of conceptual sculptures by Dominique Palladino, on display through September 22, 2010 at the Nevada Arts Council as part of the Office eXhibition Series (OXS).
In Distilled, Palladino uses salt as a means to explore and depict growing ideas of division, loss and abandonment in relationship to hierarchical gender roles. By using the salt in different states – dense, evaporated and distilled – Palladino creates a lineage of existence where a continuous slow extraction ultimately results in the absence there of, a distillation.
This process of separation (distillation) happens when water that contains various chemicals or ions in solution is heated to boiling and the water vapor is condensed, resulting in water that is free of dissolved salts.
Born in Burlingame, Calif. and raised in Reno, Palladino attended the University of Nevada, Reno and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Her work has been exhibited at numerous venues including the Stremmel Gallery in Reno, St. Mary’s Art Center in Virginia City, and the Alvin Gittins Gallery in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Palladino has been involved in two artist exchange programs: a competitive two-week exchange in London, England and a life-casting workshop conducted by Eileen Doktorski in Logan, Utah. Palladino was awarded a Sierra Arts Student Endowment Grant and Grant Artists Showcase Exhibition in 2008.
