Focus Berlin
One of the highlights of the art year in Berlin is the Gallery Weekend in Berlin. The fourth edition saw the inaugural exhibitions of Michael Arndt’s new gallery space near Potsdamer Platz and Bruno Brunnet’s (Contemporary Fine Arts) “Vittorio Manalese”. VernissageTV also had a look at the Monica Bonvicini’s solo show at Max Hetzler Gallery and attended the openings of the following solo shows: Kriwet at BQ Berlin, Matti Braun at Esther Schipper, and Wangechi Mutu at Deutsche Guggenheim. There’s always plenty to discover in the Berlin art scene. In a little side street off from the gallery district in Berlin Mitte, H. N. Semjon presents the 1919 Berlin Collection Dr. Carl Theodor Gottlob Grouwet. VernissageTV met with H. N. Semjon, who told us more about Dr. Grouwet’s collection.
Focus Cologne
After the relaunch in 2009, Art Cologne wanted to take the fair one step further in 2010, as the fair’s director Daniel Hug told VernissageTV in an interview held prior to the fair. VernissageTV covered the fair extensively, for the first time as media partner of Art Cologne. The coverage includes first impressions, highlights, a look at the solo shows of Michail Pirgelis, Francis Upritchard, and interviews and recordings of talks. Moreover, VernissageTV covered two shows in the city: at Museum Ludwig, Wade Guyton presented his Inkjet Printer Paintings, and at the Kölnischer Kunstverein, Alexandra Bircken showed new work.
Focus Basel: Basquiat, Orozco, Barney
Only weeks prior to the gathering of art lovers at Art Basel, the Swiss city launched two major exhibitions: Gabriel Orozco’s solo show at Kunstmuseum Basel, and the unique Basquiat retrospective at Fondation Beyeler. VernissageTV provides a walk through of both exhibitions and meets with Fondation Beyeler’s director Sam Keller who talks about the genesis of the Basquiat show. The third highlight will be the opening of the Matthew Barney show at Schaulager. VernissageTV will cover this event, too.
