Dreweatts and Bloomsbury Auctions are holding a 97 lot, cutting-edge Urban Art sale on Wednesday 21st April at 24 Maddox Street, London W1.
A signed pencil sketch of a Shark bearing its teeth, a skull, a butterfly and a heart by the world renowned Damien Hirst, inscribed ‘for LJ Don’t give up the art’ is one of the most financially attainable and charming lots in the sale (lot 59) estimated £1,000-1,500. The owner is a young man of 15 about to take his Art GCSE and who would like to sell this memento in order to buy himself a camera.
Works by iconic household names such as Banksy, Tracey Emin, Peter Doig, Jose Parla, Shonibare, the Chapman Brothers, Nick Walker and Micallef to name but a few, will also be on offer. A particularly attractive aspect of the sale is that 80% consists of primary pieces created specially for the event by budding young Urban artists, thus giving the public the opportunity to buy his or her own piece of Street Art by the likes of Mau Mau, Goldie, Duster, EElus, and K-Guy.
Enthusiasts will appreciate the significance and rarity of the signed and dated oil on wood, Kaos is the Sum of All Order by Jose Parla (lot 95) estimated £15,000-20,000. The eye-catching Super Sunflower collage by Ron English (lot 71), a seminal figure in Street Art and known for his masterful trompe l’oeil work, is expected to fetch £6,000-8,000.
