Turning Point Gallery will display 60 original glassblown works from glass artist Pringle Teetor August 10-August 31 in an exhibit titled “Formed In Fire.” The new work includes a special Seychelles Collection, inspired by Teetor’s travels to the Seychelle Islands. The gallery will host a reception for Teetor at the 2ndFriday ArtWalk August 14th.
Teetor’s unique style reveals a brilliant use of color and unusual techniques. Turning Point Gallery owner Jerri Meldrum says “each piece is an escape to a far off place of beauty” for local collectors.
Pringle was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and learned to embrace art at a very early age from her mother. She went on to become a teacher, potter, and photographer between trips all over the world as a tour operator. In 2003 she took a glassblowing class on a whim and immediately fell in love with the molten medium. It has become the passion of her life. Pringle now maintains a hot glass studio in Creedmoor, NC and a warm glass studio in Chapel Hill
“Glassblowing combines science with art. Its properties are at any time hot or cold, fluid or soft, then brittle and hard. This metamorphosis can take place in an instant. It can be opaque and transparent, shiny or matte. You use your hand to form it but you can’t touch it. You can work alone or depend on several people to work as a team. It can be physically challenging and exhausting. The connections of color, light, shape and composition provide endless outlets for the creative soul. …….. I will always be learning.
The Seychelles Collection was inspired by my travels to the Seychelles islands- This is my favorite island in all my worldly travels east of Africa and northeast of Madagascar. Each piece in the collection captures elements of the islands which inspired the color combinations and brilliance.” Click on http://www.harmonyfineart.com/id239.html to learn more about Teetor and to view samples of her art.
