Live Painting Performance by Chicago Artist Jason Brammer

“Into The After”, a new exhibition at Star Lounge by Chicago painter Jason Brammer, will feature a collection of photo-surrealist, mixed media paintings from his “Time Machines” series.

According to Brammer, his “Time Machines” depicts “visions of the future or of the future intervening in the past”. Many of the paintings in this series have hardware and other objects attached that he has aged to feel as if they were a century old. In particular, these “machines” are made to look as if they were from 1901, which was the peak of the Art Nouveau movement (1890-1910). This Art Nouveau influence is felt in some of the pieces as the sinuous line work of the cables swirls into action, escorting the viewer into another dimension of time. Brammer creates these sculptural paintings by seamlessly incorporating found objects, antique hardware, tubing, and constructed wood pieces into his works on canvas.

At the opening reception for the show on Saturday, May 9th from 8 to 11pm, guests can get an inside look at how Brammer creates his art as he does a live painting performance showcasing his airbrushing techniques and signature surrealistic style. This event is free and open to the public. A portion of the proceeds from this show will be donated to “Chicago Coalition for the Homeless”, a local non-profit organization that works with people hurt by homelessness. The “Into The After” exhibition will be up for viewing through Tuesday, June 30th.
