Award Winning Actor and Musician Keith David to Host and Perform at the American Jazz Museum

Award winning actor and musician Keith David will guest host and perform live with a Kansas City based Jazz Quartet during the evening activities of the American Jazz Museum’s annual “Vine Street Boogie” event, Saturday, April 11, 2009.

Vine Street Boogie is an annual live jazz extravaganza that supports the operation of music-based educational programs in an effort to contribute to the preservation of jazz in Kansas City, Missouri. Attendees can swing into spring with a dynamic evening at the American Jazz Museum to enjoy exceptional local entertainment, charming company, delightful cuisine and a captivating silent auction, all to support music education.

“I am thrilled to be returning to Kansas City,” says actor Keith David, “I had the honor of performing with the Symphony during Memorial Day Weekend festivities, and I am anxious to return and do my part of assist the American Jazz Museum, of which I am a strong supporter.”

In addition to David, featured live acts scheduled to perform include Heat Index, the Mike White Quartet, the Midnight Blue Jazz Quartet and the American Jazz Museum Student All Stars, an ensemble comprised of some of Kansas City’s brightest young musical talent. Among the items available for bid in the silent auction are vacation package getaways, airfare, jazz and sports memorabilia, entertainment packages, tickets to local arts performances, jazz festivals and a host of other items.

Keith David is an Emmy award-winning and Juilliard trained actor and vocalist with over 150 film, television and stage credits. He has appeared in films that include Oliver Stone’s Academy Award winning Platoon; Clint Eastwood’s Bird; and Academy Award winning Crash as well as television programs such as ER, 7th Heaven, Law & Order, CSI and Psych.

The American Jazz Museum offers a variety of educational programming to thousands of local students annually, providing opportunities for them to not only interact with renowned musicians from all over the world and with each other, building awareness and appreciation for the diverse range of cultures and people that create jazz.
