The two exhibits opening at the Crary Art Gallery located at 511 Market Street in Warren, PA on October 5th show a fun contrast between firm and whimsical, fact and fantasy. Tom Jackson’s “A Walk Around Town” takes viewers on a leisurely stroll down Main Street. Tom is from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting. His initial interest in art began with mechanical drawing as an apprentice draftsman with a leading company in the power generation industry. His primary task was assimilating details from numerous drafters and engineers into one large, detailed drawing. This experience inspires his meticulously detailed large-scale works. It also provided a graceful transition into capturing street level architectural features with clean, bold color, sunlit streets and dramatic shadows. In Tom’s opinion, “The main challenge with painting a building facade is to alleviate the stark, two-dimensional presentation. I find the best way to enhance both depth and interest in the facade is the accurate rendering of shadows.”
On the other hand, Nina Tokhtaman Valetova’s dreamlike body of work, “Harmony in Diversity: Nina Tokhtaman Valetova’s Synthesis of Styles,” explores several aesthetic categories related to ancient cultures, mythologies, fantasy, metaphysics, and philosophy. Nina’s art does not fall into one category or style. Often, she employs several techniques in a piece. Seeking to develop her own style of art, Nina has become an expert in many styles. Her contemporary art combines suprematism, surrealism, and cubism with abstract and figurative art.
