Arts Gowanus on Atlantic Ave ArtWalk open October 17th and 18th

The 1.5 mile socially distanced ArtWalk, curated by Arts Gowanus Executive Director Johnny Thornton, guest curators Clémence Mailly, Yvena Despagne, and the Imagination Collective, will connect Brooklyn’s vibrant neighborhoods of Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, and Downtown Brooklyn.

The self-guided exhibit, featuring the works of renowned Brooklyn artists including Swoon, A.V. Ryan, Miguel Ayuso, Natale Adgnot, Ella Yang and many more, will include photography, paintings, drawings, sculpture, multimedia, and large installations at more than 65 storefronts, outdoor dining areas, medical offices, and public spaces along Atlantic Avenue between Fourth Avenue and the waterfront.

“Neighborhood Reflections,” a crowd-funded installation in tree beds along the avenue, will add community voice to the exhibit and the diverse neighborhoods it laces through.

This collaborative effort between Brooklyn’s art, business, and neighborhood communities is designed to buoy spirits and celebrate and support local artists and businesses. Led by Arts Gowanus, the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corp, and the Atlantic Avenue Business Improvement District, it was imagined in place of the annual Arts Gowanus Open Studio event and 47-year-old Atlantic Antic events. Both events were cancelled due to the pandemic.

“Arts Gowanus on Atlantic Ave ArtWalk” is scheduled to remain open through November 1. Select works shown will be available for sale on the Arts Gowanus website when the exhibit opens.
