Ines de Poligny. Using Color and Form to Bring Opposites Together

“I try to express opposites coexisting,” Ines de Poligny says of her work. The path that the artist follows to express those dualities uses a variety of media — oils and acrylics as well as digital photography.

The contrasts in her compositions are vividly shown in her approach to composition and color. Her images combine an energetic approach to abstraction and form with a classical sense of balance. Bold splashes and blocks of color intersect with elegantly placed grids and patterns to create images that seem to bridge two worlds, creating a vital energy and generating a constant sense of visual interest.

The colors themselves also set up a vibrant juxtaposition, with intense blues, reds or yellows being set off against blacks, whites and subtle earth tones. The result once again offers both contrast and harmony, qualities that the artist sees as a reflection of the world around her. “What I hope to achieve with my work,” she notes, “is to express nature’s qualities, bringing my own abstract vision of it.”
