A graduate of Glasgow School of Art in drawing and painting, Eeles taught art and design in Renfrew High School and Williamwood High School, whilst producing the occasional oil painting in the trompe-l’oeil style.

Following his retirement, Eeles began painting regularly six years ago, his main themes being ‘fallen angels, forgotten film stars and secular saints’ and ‘time, light and space’.

Margaret Johnston, Beresford Art Gallery Co-ordinator, said: “The main influences on Eeles’s works are symbolism, surrealism and Victorian art.
“All his paintings have a narrative and are composed of separate images of actual locations/objects and individuals. These are then blended to produce a ‘true’ but non-existent reality with a hidden story or meaning within the image.”

A previous prize winner of The Glasgow Herald Open Exhibition, Eeles has exhibited in: The Maclaurin Gallery, Ayr (Costley and Costley Award winner, 2013); Compass Gallery, Glasgow; Paisley Art Institute and Glasgow School of Art, amongst many others.

Works are produced in oil on canvas, board or 425gm. watercolour paper and painted in natural light. Eeles’s Beresford Art Gallery exhibition preview evening is from 6.30pm on Sunday 4th May.
