Nominate the next winner of the Annual Leonore Annenberg Prize for Art and Social Change.
Every year, Creative Time presents the Leonore Annenberg Prize for Art and Social Change on the Summit stage. This 25,000 USD award goes to an outstanding artist who harnesses the power of art to raise awareness of and engagement with timely public issues, helping to achieve lasting change. For the first time we are asking you to help us identify who’s doing the most innovative and challenging work. What fearless artists do you know who should be recognized for kicking open doors and forging the way to greater equity in the world? Your suggestions will be considered by our expert panel, which will select the Prize winner.
And in another first, we are excited to announce that we have created a pilot program with The Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands, enabling the Prize winner to convene a dream list of collaborators—from thought leaders, to activists, government officials, and others—for a once-in-a-lifetime meeting sure to deepen the impact of their work. The planned forum will take place in Stockholm prior to this year’s Summit and is intended to lead to specific outcomes and actions, which will be shared at the Summit through a dialogue between the artist and one or more of the forum participants.
How to nominate an artist
We seek international nominations for artists working in communities from the pastoral to the inner city, the ocean to the mountains. We can’t wait to see the names of artists we already love, and to learn about those we don’t yet know. When making your nomination, please remember that the nominees must:
– Use their art to promote and achieve social justice
– Inspire expanded notions of what art can be by moving beyond the confines of traditional art spaces and into the public sphere
– Demonstrate rigorous commitment to advancing their practice, and to the communities they work with and in
– Maintain active practices (living artists only)
– Stand to truly benefit from the Prize money, as well as the connections provided through the Sunnylands retreat
To submit a single nomination for an artist you feel should be considered for the Prize, click here to fill out the short form. Nominations will be accepted until noon EST on Tuesday, February 4. The winner will be announced in spring 2014.
The Leonore Annenberg Prize for Art and Social Change is granted in the spirit of the achievements made possible by Mrs. Annenberg’s generosity, passion for humanitarian causes, and devotion to the public good. In Mrs. Annenberg’s honor, her granddaughter, Creative Time board member Elizabeth K. Sorensen, has championed the prize since its inception in 2009.
Open call for applications for the Amanda Weil Lecture
Creative Time seeks an extraordinary member of our community to present their work on stage at our first international Summit.
Named in honor of artist and ever-supportive former Creative Time Board Chair (2006–2013) Amanda Weil, The Amanda Weil Lecture provides an opportunity for the winning artist to discuss work that demonstrates a genuine commitment to community and social change.
While all artists whose practice engages timely public issues will be considered, preference will be given this year to those who explore issues of nationalism, xenophobia, or immigration rights.
If selected to present at the Summit, Creative Time will pay you a speakers fee and will cover travel expenses and accommodations in Stockholm.
Applications due on Friday, February 28, by 6pm EST, and the winner will be announced in spring 2014.
