Whether stylized, abstract, or fully surreal, the work of Huguette Thiboutot is alive with movement and light.
Thiboutot is a trained musician, and describes color as “the other side of sound.” Her palette is accordingly an intense and vital part of her work, with bright colors contrasted sharply against one another, light playing off dark, and shades cleverly blended with dry-brush and transparent layers. The colors, saturated as they are, exist on the same otherworldly plane as the imagery itself. The compositions forego traditional backgrounds and recognizable details in favor of the rich, entirely new textures created by Thiboutot’s brilliant hues. What emerges are sophisticated lines, mysterious imagery, and a constant sense of movement. Thiboutot draws on organic forms – plant life, the beautiful currents of air and water – as well as painting purely imagined images, which effortlessly blend into abstraction. This sense of ethereal synchronicity allows for one to imagine the reverberating hum of the last soft stroke of the piano’s key, mixing harmoniously into painted color.
Huguette Thiboutot lives and works in Montreal, and has exhibited extensively in Canada.

About the Exhibition
The artwork in Persistence of Form abounds with an enticingly lively sense of movement and energy which both reaches out to the audience and encourages us to dive into the art and go along for the ride. The pieces display personality and individual concerns, yet also possess a universal awareness that connects them to the shared experience of being human. The artists in Unbound Perspectives present their unique vision of existence and reality through works which are compelling and thoroughly creative in their insistence on leaving behind accepted boundaries and striking boldly out into new ground. In Divine Stardom: Lady Gioconda / a Solo Exhibition the artist presents work which combines harmony and a sense of stylistic diversity, for a surprisingly spiritual, and spirited, effect.
The exhibitions begin on November 22, 2013 and continue until December 13, 2013. The opening reception is on the evening of Thursday December 5, 2013. Entrance is free and art lovers are warmly invited to attend.
