A collection of images captured in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska by Anchorage photographer 3 is being exhibited at Snow City Café in downtown Anchorage for the month of September 2013. Printed on Fujiflex Crystal Archive glossy paper and aluminum, the landscape and wildlife images tell a story of a land interconnected with and dependent upon rich, pristine water resources. Various environmental portraits of people from throughout the region, accompanied by quotations from interviews, tell personal stories about a connection to this incredible landscape.

This exhibit will be the first public display of images that Johnson has been capturing during fieldwork for his upcoming photo book about Bristol Bay, “Where Water is Gold: Life and Livelihood in Alaska’s Bristol Bay,” scheduled for release by Seattle publisher Braided River in 2014. During the First Friday reception at Snow City Café, there will be a silent auction to benefit the work of Anchorage non-profit environmental law firm Trustees for Alaska, which has been engaged in efforts to protect the Bristol Bay region. Silent auction items include pieces by local artists, books by local authors, tickets to musical performances, and outdoor adventures.
