James Hyman Photography presents two solo-exhibitions by artists Anna Fox and Lynne Cohen. OPEN 12 OCTOBER – 12 NOVEMBER.
Works from Anna Fox’s newest series RESORT is the culmination of a two year commission by holiday camp Butlins to celebrate the camp’s 75th anniversary.

Following the black and white social documentary photography that previously captured holiday history, and expanding on Martin Parr’s celebrated photographs of the camp, Fox’s highly charged colour photographs bring the hyper-reality and spirit of play of this historical and cultural site to the contemporary stage.

The gallery will also be showcasing new work by Canadian photographer Lynne Cohen. Featuring vintage and contemporary works, this miniature retrospective follows the artist’s presentation at the Venice Biennale and Rencontres d’Arles this summer.
Cohen has consistently explored the mystery of unoccupied space and place. She does not locate or contextualize her photographs, but instead uses the power of ambiguity and absence to question what can and can not be represented in the absence of the human form. The void within these interiors rebounds to allow the space to make itself a palpable subject in the photograph. Each space has a particular ‘something’ that gives it an extra-human energy.
