VOLTA ANNOUNCES 2012 DATES

VOLTA NY brings its tightly curated, solo-project format back to New York from March 8 through 11, 2012.

This year, 74 innovative international galleries invited to exhibit will present both emerging and mid-career artists. The gallery list will spotlight those from Nordic countries in order to continue complementing its sister fair, The Armory Show, whose focus section for 2012 will be the Scandinavian region, while a reduction in exhibitor numbers from previous years will allow for more public space and stricter quality control. The two fairs will again share the public OPEN FORUM Talks and complementary shuttles for visitors between the central Manhattan Island venues as well as the nearby Chelsea Gallery district.

VOLTA8, now open to application, will return to the Dreispitzhalle, at the heart of an urban regeneration project designed by Herzog & De Meuron. Close to the world-renowned Schaulager, Basel’s new cultural hotspot also hosts 16 local artists’ studios, allocated after a juried selection organized by the Christoph Merian Foundation; the foundation’s own project space “Basement” for graduates of the iaab international exchange program; the alternative independent art space OSLO10; a contemporary photography gallery; and the House of Electronic Arts, organizer of the annual Shift-Electronic Arts Festival.

With resounding positive feedback from collectors and curators for both the solo project concept of the NY fair and the newly stripped down Basel fair, with fewer exhibitors and mostly 2–3 person shows, VOLTA continues to be a fair where individual artistic practices can be discovered and more deeply considered.

The online application for VOLTA8 can be accessed by visiting the VOLTA website

The deadline for applications is November 15, 2011.
