St. Louis Art Museum Presents Martha Colburn: Triumph of the Wild

Artist and filmmaker Martha Colburn depicts a frenetic, whirlwind narrative of an epic topic—the history of American war from Bunker Hill to Baghdad—collapsed into a 10-minute animated film in the Museum’s latest New Media Series installation, Triumph of the Wild (2008–9). Deploying hand-colored animation, collage, found imagery, and a novel use of jigsaw puzzles, Colburn offers a visually accessible film that is also brutally honest about the consequences of war.

The Saint Louis Art Museum collects, presents, interprets, and conserves works of art of the highest quality across time and cultures; educates, inspires discovery, and elevates the human spirit; and preserves a legacy of artistic achievement for the people of St. Louis and the world.
