Fourth Annual Elephant’s Eye Studio Tour

Elephant’s Eye Artist Studio Tour announce the addition of artists Devin Bird and Deborah Bruns-Thomas to the talented group participating in the upcoming fourth annual tour. The inclusion of these artists furthers the tour’s mission of featuring various art mediums and innovative, high-quality work of local artists of Bucks County, Pa.

Over two weekends in May, a selection of nationally and internationally acclaimed contemporary artists from Bucks County, Pa. will open their studio doors to the public. The tour showcases two- and three-dimensional works, including oil paintings, photographs, sculpture, pottery, turned wood and more. This year the tour will take place over the weekends of May 14-15 and May 21-22.

Devin Bird, whose studio is located in Plumstead, Pa., has developed his work into an interdisciplinary practice that engages an array of different artistic processes and techniques. A skilled blacksmith, Bird specializes in metal and woodworking for the Smithsonian Institute.

Bird is a dual citizen of both the United States and Great Britain and has lived in five different countries. He has studied in Europe at Le Petit College d’Art in Lyon, France, Design Academy Eindhoven in Holland, and University of the Arts in London.

A formally trained painter, Deborah Bruns-Thomas’ studio practice has developed into a discipline that allows for opportunities of chance to occur with various materials. She tends to incorporate everyday objects such as tea bags and business envelopes into her artwork as primary materials.

Bruns-Thomas received her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and has studied with Andrew Forge and Robert Slutzky. She received her BFA from Moore College of Art and Design. Her studio space is in Perkasie, Pa.

These two artists join Alex Cohen, painter; David Ellsworth, wood turner; Wendy Ellsworth, sculptor and bead Artist; Pat Martin, painter; John McDevitt, sculptor; Lisa Naples, ceramic artist; Luis Pruitt, sculptor; Stacey Speer Scott, painter; and photographers Michael A. Smith and Paula Chamlee for the 2011 Elephant’s Eye Studio Tour.

The tour is free to the public and is a perfect way to spend a spring day or a weekend in scenic Bucks County. Studios are located throughout central and upper Bucks and range from charming woodland retreats to converted industrial buildings. Artwork will be available for purchase and artists will be on hand to discuss their work and provide periodic demonstrations.
