Vermont Photography Contest Winners Announced

Rolling meadows, majestic mountains and the ironic beauty of a retired asbestos mine were the subjects that won awards in the Views of Vermont Landscape Photography Contest. Award winners were selected from over 650 photographs.

“Contestants definitely got into the spirit of the contest,” said Stephan Jost, museum director. “With so many beautiful images of Vermont submitted, selecting the winners was no small task, but these three stood out, each in its own way.”

Old Asbestos Mine by Carolyn Demers of Alburgh was the First Prize winner in the Views of Vermont Landscape Photography Contest. Fay’s image was selected from over 650 images submitted in the contest inspired by the Shelburne Museum exhibit Ansel Adams and Edward Burtynsky: Constructed Landscapes, on view through October 24.

The idea behind the contest was to be inspired by iconic landscape photographer Ansel Adams and contemporary great Edward Burtynsky. Both photographers’ works are on view at the museum through October 24 in the exhibit Constructed Landscapes.

Here are the winners:

Grand prize: Addison Meadows by Glenn Fay Jr. of Essex Junction.

First prize: Old Asbestos Mine by Carolyn Demers of Alburgh.

Honorable Mention: Car Window Vista by Don Shall of Burlington.

The grand prize winner received $250; first prize $100 and honorable mention $50. In addition, all three winners received a family membership to Shelburne Museum, which entitles the winners and their families unlimited visits to the museum for a year, along with discounts at the Museum Store and Café and other benefits. The contest was generously sponsored by the Burlington Free Press.
