Marco Casentini: All Around Opens at the Riverside Art Museum

The Riverside Art Museum Presents an exhibition of works by Marco Casentini: All Around, open through November 6th. A public reception will be held on September 10 at 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

This exhibition features recent work from Italian painter Marco Casentini. Now a resident of Hermosa Beach, Casentini hails from La Spezia, Italy, where a complementary exhibit of the artist is being held at the Centro Arte Moderne e Contemporanea.

Marco Casentini was born in La Spezia, Italy. He graduated from the Liceo Artistico in Carrara in 1980, and from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara in 1984. Casentini has exhibited his artwork in Italy, the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Australia, and Austria, and in some 40 solo exhibitions since 1983. Casentini’s work appears in many private, corporate, and public collections, including: the Museum für Konkrete Kunst, Ingolstadt, Germany; The Progressive Art Collection, Cleveland, OH; Mestna Galerija, Nova Gorica, Slovenia; and in Italy, Civica Raccolta del Disegno, Salò; Fondazione Bandera per l’Arte, Busto Arsizio; Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Sesto Calende; MAPP Museo d’Arte Paolo Pini, Milan; Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Calasetta; CAMeC, La Spezia; and the Università degli Studi, Pavia.

Casentini was the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 2005. He and his family moved from Milan to Hermosa Beach in Los Angeles County in 2007. He frequently travels to Milan where he maintains a studio and teaches painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti.

Casentini’s work is immediately recognizable, monumental, super-saturated. His large gridded geometric abstractions connect with recent Southern California painters investigating themes of scale, color, grids, and clean lines.

Following on recent RAM exhibits such as “Driven To Abstraction” and “Painting in Southern California in the 1980s,” Casentini’s work shows a new generation of artists drawing on Southern California themes of the “finish fetish,” minimalism, and geometric planes. He mixes the influences from his background painting in Italy and the architectural spaces there with the feel of the unending ocean and luminous sunlight throughout Southern California. All Around will consist of monumental, bright, geometric abstract paintings on canvas and painting directly on the wall. Casentini views his work as abstracted portrayals of the Southern Californian and Italian landscapes in which he resides.
