Marc Chagall is recognized by all as a 20th century master of modern art. Chagall’s distinctive contribution to modern art lays largely in his unique blend of color and dreamlike images. He developed a personal symbolic language, presented in a palette of bold colors, that resonated with millions of admirers throughout his life. That interest is continuing into the 21st century.
This retrospective to honor Marc Chagall opens May 1, 2010 and runs through June 30, 2010. Included in the show are biographical information and a discussion of the themes that recur throughout Chagall’s long, prolific career. These major themes are illustrated using examples of Chagall’s works drawn from the collection of J D Smith Fine Art and other sources. Included are graphic works, such as color lithographs, and select paintings from museum collections.
Art collectors still avidly seek out paintings and graphic works by Chagall, a passion that fine art galleries throughout the world continue to respond to. Admirers of Chagall’s work continue to visit exhibits at major museums that include his creations, as evidenced by the early 2010 exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. That show included works by Picasso, Chagall, and other Avant-Garde artists of Paris in the first half of the 20th century.
