During May 2010, the Ava Gardner Museum will unveil a new exhibit, The Most Photographed Woman in the World. At the height of her film career, Ava Gardner was the most photographed woman in the world with MGM sending out over 3,000 photos of her weekly.
To prepare for this exhibit, Museum staff will digitalize the photography collection of the Ava Gardner Collection. Once the photos are in digital format, a “slide show” presentation will be created. This presentation will play continuously on a flat panel television to be installed in the Museum, along with interpretive panels detailing Ava’s life in front of the camera. This exhibit marks the first time the Museum will present a multi-media exhibit.
The exhibit will be unveiled at an opening reception, scheduled Thursday, May 20th from 5-7pm. The reception is free and open to the public.
“Based on the learning needs of future generations, this exhibit will be a positive first step toward integrating technology into the Museum with the eventual goal of presenting interactive exhibits. By digitalizing the photography collection, the Museum will be better able to help scholars, authors, journalists, filmmakers and others in their research for biographies, films, papers, and articles,” stated Executive Director Jessica Meadows Hammett.
The Ava Gardner Museum is located in downtown Smithfield, at 325 E. Market Street.
