Galerie Van den Akker, New York’s premier seller of European modernist furnishings, will host an exhibit of sixteen sculptures by artist Pamela Sunday.
Pamela Sunday creates hand built ceramic sculptures inspired by nature and science. She is renowned for her meticulous craftsmanship and for testing the limits of her materials both in surface and form. Every sculpture is unique.
Highlights from the exhibit will include: Atom: stoneware with a glossy pewter glaze, Hive: brown mottled stoneware with gold luster in the indents, Burst: stoneware with a textural glaze, Electrum: stoneware with a gold/bronze glaze and Oculus: stoneware with black glaze and opalescent over-glaze. The forms will be shown in sizes ranging from 10.5 inches to 19 inches.
The exhibit will be on view starting Friday October 9th through Tuesday December 1st. A reception for the artist will be held on Thursday October 8th from 6-9pm.
Pamela Sunday makes hand built ceramic sculptures inspired by nature and science. Scientist and printmaker Ernst Haeckel and his systematic classifications of plant and animal morphology, as well as, Karl Blossfeldt’s macrophotgraphy of plants, inspire her latest work. Sunday lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
Her work has been featured in international publications including: Architectural Digest, Connaissance Des Arts, Interior Design and House & Garden. Sunday’s work resides in private collections and is featured in galleries around the world.
