Book Documenting The London Show by Adam Neate

On the night of November 14th 2008, helped by a team of distributors, artist Adam Neate staged The London Show randomly distributing 1000 individually numbered unique multiples, printed on cardboard and shrink wrapped in cellophane, through the 33 Boroughs, transforming London into a gallery space.

The performance generated an incredible impact within the artistic community, and beyond: an estimated 50,000 people combed the streets of London throughout the night searching for a Neate screenprint. Some discovered one, some more, others failed, but everyone who participated in the treasure hunt experienced something special. Some of the found pieces will be treasured forever, whilst others appeared for sale on ebay the next day. The general feedback exceeded any expectations: on the Banksy Forum alone, bible of street art in London, the thread discussing the event ran to 51 pages, with 30,200 views over two weeks.

Now an 88-page book has been collated to document this incredible art experience. Produced in a limited edition of 1000, like the amount of works left on the streets, the hard bound volume bears the same instantly recognisable portrait on the front cover, is similarly shrink- wrapped and documents the event from the ‘manufacture’ of the works, to the distribution. It also collects the messages of the people who made the exhibition such a great experience.

Full of beautiful colour reproductions of the artworks distributed on that night and presenting a selection of the Banksy Forum posts and emails and messages sent to Adam by the people who wanted to share their experience with him, this volume is a unique and collectible memento of an inspired art event.

The introduction is written by art historian Ben Jones and the outro, which reviews and examines the exhibition, is by writer and editor Mike von Joel.

The books are for sale from the gallery website: www.elmslesters.co.uk for the price of £ 25.00.
