The children and youths remain in the hospital school in average 8 weeks during their stay in the Elisabeth Clinic of the hospital, after this time they go back in their school of origin.

Similarly to Frida Kahlo, the children and youths in hospital schools are hurt in their bodies or spirit. Often they are hurt in both, art can help them to express their pain and fears. The children express on the canvas their anger or doubts, as well as their happiness and dreams, and deal in this way with their emotions in a creative and constructive way. Especially for this exhibition in the museum, they have interpreted famous Frida Kahlo paintings.

In addition to her work, Tehuana clothes and jewelry are shown. The exhibition revolves around the courtyard of the Casa Azul (The Blue House: the family house of Frida Kahlo) reconstructed with its Aztec pyramid, pre-columbian figures, exotic plants.

The Frida Kahlo exhibition which opened on February 28 2009, has received more than enthusiastic reviews from its visitors, the following visitor’s comment is symbolic of the experience offered by the exhibition: “This is much more than a museum, this is a Frida Kahlo house live. Moving, impressive, profound. A new stoke of luck for Baden-Baden”.

The paintings of the children and youths of the Frida Kahlo School are shown in the reconstructed Frida Kahlo’s atelier, next to the cabinet displaying filigree jewelry and a Mexican dress of the type Frida used to wear.

The paintings and ceramics from the Frida Kahlo pediatric school are on sale, the revenues will be given to the Frida Kahlo school in Dortmund.
