Mor Mor – Next (18) 2009 Acrylic On Canvas 102cm x 76cm Karin Weber Gallery
Mor Mor is one of a handful of women who manages to be a full time artist. Her acrylic paintings of water drops against a backdrop of peeling paint is a study of complementary colours and the special quality of water. At times, the water drop maintains its fluidity and transparency while on other occasions, it leaves behind a track on different kinds of surfaces. Mor Mor’s work ‘NEXT’ was the winner of the 2008 Sovereign Asian Art Prize Public Vote. Born in 1979, she was initially trained as an engineer. She graduated from the State School of Fine Arts, Yangon in 2005 and became a full time artist.
Nimchi Yuen was born in HK but spent her childhood in the Netherlands. She completed both her master and bachelor degree in fine arts in the United Kingdom. Using references from her multi-cultural experiences, she dramatizes her subject matter whether it is landscape or portrait. The animals and birds in her works seem to have assumed the characteristics of human beings while her colour palette is so reminiscent of spring. With the support of HK Arts Development Council, in 2001 she had a solo exhibition in which more than 90 of her works were exhibited at the Government Office in Admiralty.
