American Airlines and its employees have been recognized by North Texas Business for Culture and the Arts (NTBCA) for its long-standing leadership, support and commitment to promoting excellence in the arts.
NTBCA, a nonprofit organization that connects the business and arts communities, presented American with an Obelisk Award during its 21st annual ceremony on May 30. The award celebrates American and its employees’ decades of supporting the arts community on many levels, including service on executive boards and in-kind donations for organizations such as the AFI Dallas International Film Festival, Big Thought, Casa Manana in Fort Worth, Creative Arts Center of Dallas, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Opera, Dallas Summer Musicals, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Theater Center, Japanese American Cultural Community Center, Kimbell Art Museum, Latino Cultural Center, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and the Turtle Creek Chorale.
“From our early days, American realized the importance of supporting the arts. Arts patrons are often frequent travelers – both for business and pleasure. By supporting arts organizations, we are able to reach an important audience in ways traditional advertising cannot,” said Kevin Cox, American’s Vice President – State & Community Affairs and an Obelisk Advisory Council member. “Additionally, American understands that to attract and retain the kind of talent that will keep us competitive in the future, we must ensure a vibrant, world-class arts and cultural scene in our home town.”
In addition to supporting area arts organizations, American actively encourages its employees to become involved in the arts. Through the Arts Leadership Council at American Airlines, employees participate in events such as the “On My Own Time: Employee Art Show,” an annual exhibit of employee-inspired artwork. Arts Leadership Council members also serve as volunteer ambassadors for American in their communities and as advocates for arts and cultural organizations, including NTBCA.
“The arts impact us in so many ways-inspiring, entertaining, and enriching our lives,” said Bella Goren, American’s Senior Vice President-Customer Relationship Marketing and Reservations. “Through American’s support of the arts organizations and local events, our people and their families are able to be more actively involved in our communities. This involvement, in turn, opens up so many wonderful opportunities to better understand and appreciate the world around us.”
