arteBA Art Fair Opens in Buenos Aires

Fundación Proa presents this edition of arteBA, continuing a tradition that has followed year after year. In this occasion, for four uninterrupted years, Proa will sponsor arteBA’s Press room and will designate a visual artist who will be in charge of designing the working space for all the journalists covering the Fair.

For this edition, Proa designated artist Gachi Hasper, who will present an installation based on the visual identity of newspapers, magazines and electronic art media. Hasper has declared that her main goal is to think about communication media and reflect the way they publish those news related to the art world.

“The idea is to create different wall compositions that reveal the purpose of the Press Room. On these bases, I play with signs and with the text ARTE-PRENSA / ART-PRESS. There will be superabundance of words and that mirror”, states Hasper, “text that loose their meaning and that become a visual element: a print”, explains Gachi Hasper, who usually works with photographs digitally modified.

The artistic project that Fundación Proa presents shows a peculiarity: the artist must conceive his/her intervention based on a dynamic space, where journalists from all over the world get together to work. “In this case, the installation works as a mirror, conceived in accordance with the needs of journalists and art critics working at the Contemporary Art Fair. The Press Room will have two rooms: a fully equipped working space, featuring telephone lines, fax, computers with internet access, wi-fi internet access; and another, smaller, room, where journalists can conduct their interviews at ease.

Fundación Proa is a Contemporary Art Center -supported by Tenaris- settled in the traditional neighborhood of La Boca. Since 1996, Fundación Proa is devoted to the dissemination of the most relevant artistic movements of the 20th century. Its cultural program includes temporary exhibitions of local and international artists, concerts of contemporary music, seminars, workshops and conferences.

During previous editions of arteBA, the artists that Fundación Proa selected to artistically intervene arteBA’s Press room were Alejandro Puente, Marina De Caro, Sergio Avello and Alfred Fellinger. This year, Fundación Proa will again be present in this celebrated cultural event, where more than 800 Latin American artists will exhibit their works, and where contemporary art galleries from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Spain and the United States will participate.
