Gallery KH is pleased to present AMY CANNADY: CONTEMPLATIONS, opening April 24 through May 30, 2009. An opening night cocktail reception with the artist is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2009, 5-8PM. The artist will host a gallery talk the following day, April 25, 2009 at 1PM. All events at the gallery are free and open to the public.
“Amy Cannady’s new exhibition, Contemplations really defines her style and method because it is not only about her contemplative nature as an artist but also about the invitation to view the collection of pieces as a thoughtful spectator,” says Kristen Hagan, Gallery KH Co-Director. While Cannady maintains the airy and ethereal quality found in all of her work, Contemplations will highlight Cannady’s ability to layer the paint in multiple transparent washes, thus inviting the viewer to engage with the artwork more deeply. The end result is stunning- truly more than meets the eye.
Within Cannady’s artwork, tensions and serenities coexist, inviting the viewer to consider life’s mysteries and ambiguities. Through a reduction and layering process she allows line and form to emerge, disappearing again into obscurity. States Hagan, “A serious look is deserved to all the works, we’re very excited about this breath of fresh air which will open right as Spring in Chicago truly begins.”
Hailing from Indiana and most recently Dallas and Santa Fe, Cannady received her BFA from the Southern Methodist University in Texas. Cannady has studied and continues to be influenced by the strong lines used by the artists Joan Mitchell, Philip Guston, Cy Twombly, and David Smith.
