Ringling College of Art and Design announced a strategic affiliation agreement with the International Center of Photography (ICP), which will provide select Ringling students an opportunity to study at the Manhattan-based ICP for one year, beginning with the 2009-2010 academic year.
“Ringling College’s affiliation with the International Center of Photography in New York City is an outstanding opportunity for the college, its students, and faculty to interact with one of the most respected photographic educational organizations in the world,” commented Thomas Carabasi, Photography & Digital Imaging department head. “In addition to selected students being able to study at ICP,” Carabasi noted, “we are looking forward to the intellectual and cultural exchange opportunities this connection represents as we move forward with the development of our major. We are honored that we are one of the few undergraduate departments in the country to be selected for this type of program.”
ABOUT RINGLING COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN
Founded in 1931 by real estate developer, art collector and circus impresario John Ringling, the private, not-for-profit four-year institution is fully accredited to award the BFA degree in 13 visual arts disciplines – including Photography & Digital Imaging, which launched in 1995 – and a BA in the Business of Art & Design. Located near downtown Sarasota, the college enrolls 1,230 students from 47 states and 30 countries.
Ringling College is well known for its technological resources supporting the academic program which include more than 25 computer labs, a computer to student ratio of more than 2.2:1, and a brand new, fully-loaded MacBook Pro notebook given to each incoming student for use during their time at the college. Ringling’s photography program is housed within a dedicated building: The Deborah J. Cooley Photography Center. The facility contains a black and white darkroom, several flexible studio spaces, and offers equipment for check out to students including contemporary strobes, light controlling devices, and large-format cameras. The state-of-the-art digital imaging labs provide Mac workstations for digital manipulation, as well as black-and-white and color printers, scanners, peripherals, and access to a campus print center for large format work.
