RUMBLE Art Fair Coincides With Santa Barbara International Film Festival

RUMBLE (http://www.rumbleartfair.com) is being welcomed in 2009 as a new contemporary fine art show coinciding with Santa Barbaras 24th International Film Festival from January 22nd through February 1st. Opening night is from 7pm-11pm on Friday, January 23rd at 322 State Street.

RUMBLE co-founder and curator Sean Anderson (http://www.seananderson.com) has invited local, national and international artists in the fields of contemporary painting, sculpture, art photography, film, design and digital multimedia to show their artwork. “The show embodies the concept that fine art can evoke reaction while evoking action toward a cause. Our goal is to present a venue that allows the community to interact with art that speaks to the tension and complexity of our modern society. By donating ten percent of the sales to the humanitarian efforts of Doctors Without Borders we are also doing something positive within that international society, ” says Anderson. Doctors Without Borders (http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org) is an international medical humanitarian organization providing aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect or catastrophe.

Contrary to the established model of annual international fine art events showcasing art galleries representing artists, RUMBLE is an artist for artist endeavor that follows the most recent trend of bringing the public directly to the artist as source. The show is not dependent on gallery funding or artist entry fees. A 6500 square foot space in one of State Street’s historical buildings was donated for the show and there is a long list of sponsors and volunteers. “The point of RUMBLE really is to create a dialogue in the art world and empower the artist,” says Ashley Woods, who, along with Sean Anderson and photographer Clinton Hollister (http://www.clintonhollister.com) co-founded the event.

According to show organizers, RUMBLE will showcase artists from as far away as Buenos Aires and Macedonia and the show will host a series of events including a VIP event for film maker Cass Warner, whose film “The Brothers Warner” (http://www.thebrotherswarner.com) is screening twice during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. A pre-show featuring the art photography of co-founder Clinton Hollister (http://www.clintonhollister.com) opened at SoHo on January 13th.

“The majority of our artists will be in town during the Film Festival and will attend our opening on Friday night. It promises to be a great party,” reports Anderson. “We are definitely getting ready to rumble.”
