Timur Novikov Exhibition at State Hermitage Museum

ST. PETERSBURG – The State Hermitage Museum announces the exhibition “Timur’s Territory. St Petersburg – New York. On the 50th Anniversary of the birth of Timur Novikov”, as a part of the “Hermitage 20/21” project. Timur Novikov (1958–2002) is considered to be the great representative of modern Russian art. His works are to be held in the collections of the leading Russian and foreign museums, and are making the real rush at the most famous world auctions of late.

At the exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of birth of the painter (the 24th of September should have been the 50th anniversary of Timur Novikov), non-famous and even unknown works will be presented. 22 masterpieces from the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, The State Russian Museum, St Petersburg, Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova museum in Turku, Finland, from the private collections of St Petersburg, Moscow and Brussels will be exhibited at the Hermitage.

The exhibition opens up within the “Hermitage 20/21” project. In 2007-2008 two exhibitions were presented in the project frames: “USA Today: New American Art from the Saatchi Gallery” and one of the American contemporary art leader’s personal exhibition – “Chuck Close: Seven Portraits”.

The exhibition curator is Arkady Ippolitov, the Senior Researcher of the Western European Department of the State Hermitage Museum.
