Phoenix, AZ – Wolfgang Nibori, a 29-year-old struggling artist and internet entrepreneur, launched the Million Dollar Poetry website (www.sinminx.com) in an effort to be the first individual to earn $1,000,000 through selling poetry online. Marketing his poems as both art and advertising, he aims to sell one million lines of poetry at a dollar per line, with each poem being linked to the website of the sponsor who paid for it. So far, within 10 hours of announcing the idea in an online forum (www.digitalpoint.com), Nibori sold five lines of poetry.
“Is this idea new?” asks the Phoenix-based artist, “Of course not, advertising’s been around as long as the web has. They key for me is that I’m using my poetry skills to offer art that entertains and pays for itself.”
Aside from the initial sale, the artist set aside three buttons on the front page of the site which will be twice the 1 by 2 inch size of the normal buttons that lead to each poem. These first three buttons are currently being auctioned on E-bay to the highest bidders in an effort to generate advertising revenue.
“Right now the site’s bare bones,” Nibori explains, “I wanted to start as simply as possible with no expenditures other than the cost of the domain name itself. I want the art to be the star. I want the site to be an inspiration for others.”
Visitors to the website can also view Nibori’s blog where he intends to provide insight into his daily work towards the goal he’s set for himself. Beyond this, Nibori employs YouTube video clips of himself in an effort to show his audience the reality of trying to write one’s way to wealth.
Since dropping out of college after obtaining a two year degree in 2001, Nibori has focused his work on writing fiction, completing two novels as well as a large number of paintings. He’s supported himself by ghostwriting song lyrics and copyediting work. His passion for horror movies lead him to start up Happy Horror (www.happyhorror.com), a blog catering to fans of the genre.
“It’s not easy being an artist,” he says, “Not for me or anyone else. The same goes for business. Since people support my idea, I want to give back by offering an un-edited look at my life and what I believe will be my trajectory to success.”
