David Poston is a jeweller and designer whose work has been collected by museums across the world and bought by individuals to be worn every day.
Unconventional throughout his career, he has designed a necklace for an elephant, photographed bands like The Rolling Stones in concert and developed life-changing training projects in Africa. The connecting thread is his mission to better understand problems and to solve them, to improve people’s lives.
Poston’s designs are minimal and sensual. He always wanted to make jewellery which would be worn as much of the day and night as possible. He says, “Jewellery is a way of reconciling people to their bodies, making them feel switched on. It is about how they feel inside and how they can realise that feeling.” By the time he was in his thirties, his work had been bought enthusiastically by people across the world and by major international museum collections.
‘Necklace for an Elephant and Other Stories’ traces Poston’s life and his achievements, not only in jewellery, but also photography, engineering, invention, process design and international development.
