Donna Serio’s Luminous Pencil Drawings

Donna Serio achieves works of remarkable power and beauty with nothing more than a simple pencil. Her drawings radiate rich colors, texture and shading that are comparable to the paintings of the greatest oil artists. Her compositions, with their vibrant palette, evoke a symbolist quality which is reminiscent of early twentieth century Art Nouveau.

Her works have the authenticity of superior technique combined unexpectedly with an Outsider ambience. The painstaking exactness of her use of the medium is notable; her shading is flawless and her arrangements are flowing with harmony. Yet it is her subjects which engage the viewer. At once familiar and mystifying, they perhaps even border on the surreal. The end result is entirely ethereal and wholly decorative. Serio demonstrates a profound understanding of nature and the role of undulating floral patterns in the true meaning of art. Color, form and light disseminate from her works, making her drawings a luminous addition to any collection.

A predominantly self-taught artist, Donna Serio has exhibited throughout New York City and has recently been picked up by a private gallery in Long Island.
