Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival

Bournemouth Arts by the Sea is running from 3 September – 15 October 2011.

In it’s first year a unique and exciting programme has been planned, Including:

The Cabinet of Living Cinema
Friday 23 September 6-8pm
Living cinema with music rescores to avant-garde and animated films. The Cabinet, led by musician Kieron Maguire, give us an extraordinary site-specific performance inspired by the curious late-Victorian surroundings of the Russell-Cotes Museum’s historic house.

Spice Box – Free Event in Museum Garden
Saturday 24 September 11.30-12 noon
A free event in the museum garden run by Michelle O’Brian. A one woman show introducing the Tudor Spice Box from a time when ‘spices were more valuable than gold’. An interactive box full of eastern promise and where treasures abound. Followed by activities in the museum (admission charge applies)

Light Night Concert – BSO led by Jack Maguire
Saturday 24 September 2-4.30pm
Members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, led by Jack Maguire, perform arrangements by Bournemouth’s own Franck le Prince, as well as film themes, tangos, classical and baroque music.
£5 museum admission charge

Magic Lantern Show with Professor Heard
Saturday 24 September 5.30-6.30pm
Genuine and full-blooded magic lantern show, featuring ingenious vintage moving slides, comical stories,Gothic tales, sights, frights and optical surprises. Heard’s work has featured in major festivals, galleries and theatresaround the world and film and TV credits include Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, Jude (1996), BBC Culture Show, and more.

The Haunted Violin
Thursday 11 October 7pm – 9pm, with an interval at 7:50pm
Dress-up and join musician-in-residence Jack Maguire and the BSO’s pianist Barbara Henvest for a candle-lit evening of music. Including Saint Saens own version of Danse Macabre, music from the film The Red Violin, Tartini’s Devil’s Trill and Paganini.
Café serving light refreshments in the interval
