Camera Work Opens NOMAD TWO WORLDS Photographs Exhibition

CAMERA WORK is hosting the first NOMAD TWO WORLDS exhibition in Europe, on view August 20 – August 28, 2011.

This much anticipated event is a multi-media art exhibition created by world-renowned, New York based Australian photographer Russell James, in collaboration with indigenous artists from Australia, US Native American community and Haiti. This exhibition incorporates James’ incredible photography of Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes, some of the world’s most beautiful women and interesting people like Hugh Jackman, and the cultural setting of Australia’s ancient indigenous music and art. NOMAD TWO WORLDS exhibitions have previously opened in New York, Los Angeles and Melbourne.

NOMAD TWO WORLDS exhibition takes us on a modern day journey of political importance as the embodiment of an emerging, positive message of reconciliation that is currently unfolding from the ashes of a tragic collision of cultures. NOMAD TWO WORLDS is a series inspired by the global consequences of cultural collision. It is informed both by Australia’s ancient past and by an unfolding, present-day political narrative, and has become a global example of reconciliation in action.

On show for the first time is also a significant collection of collaborative art created by Russell James and a number of Haitian artists, including Pascale Monnin, Debreus Lherisson, Reinold Clerisier and Philippe Dodard. NOMAD TWO WORLDS was invited to Haiti by the Clinton Global Initiative together with Donna Karan and her foundation Urban Zen to help stimulate the artisan community after the devastating earthquake.

The exhibition will also feature collaborative music, inspirational film and educational initiatives, to experience firsthand indigenous art, music and culture from the indigenous community, artists, and educators.

NOMAD TWO WORLDS will be open to the public at Alte Münze from Saturday, August 20, until Sunday, August 28, 2011, between 11am-7pm. The exhibition will launch with an exclusive opening night gala event at Alte Münze for 300 VIP guests hosted by Russell James, Donna Karan, Hugh and Deborra-Lee Jackman and CAMERA WORK.

Since 2009, CAMERA WORK has been the worldwide exclusive gallery for Russell James’ photography. After presenting several NOMAD TWO WORLDS works in April 2011, CAMERA WORK will show selected pictures of this series in the reception room of its gallery from August 20 to August 28.
