Johansson Projects Presents Josh Short Control Room

Johansson Projects presents an installation by Josh Short, where crisis is business as usual.

The exhibition begins with a deceptive facade of crudely framed screen prints. Upon further investigation, viewers can find a hidden door to the surveillance control room; a cross between a post-apocalyptic survivalist bunker and a lazy police office. As the new commanders of this strange outpost, they are equipped with food, tools, and recreational activities – including a remote controlled video surveillance vehicle and a set of Sopranos DVDs. Confronted with questions about the nature of their own cultural consumption, one might ask themself whether they are in on the joke or are the punchline itself.

Show Runs March 10, 2011 – April 23 2011
Opening Reception: March 19, 2011 5-8pm

Johansson Projects is contemporary art gallery that functions as a curatorial laboratory, creating exhibitions that pair established and internationally-recognized artists with up-and-coming locals. Its unique architecture allows for innovative exhibitions, prompting viewers to actively engage with artists who explore the delicate mysteries embedded in modernity often using unorthodox materials and methods. Johansson Projects was voted best gallery in 2008 and 2009 and is a locus for curators, collectors, and artists to connect and engage in dialogue with the larger art community both regionally and nationally.
