The G2 Gallery presents Boreal Future: Our Last Great Forest and The Threat of The Tar Sands, a solo exhibit of photography by Garth Lenz on view through March 27, 2011.
At 1.3 billion acres, the Canadian Boreal Forest is perhaps the world’s greatest and most effective carbon storehouse, absorbing harmful greenhouse gasses and releasing life-giving oxygen into the atmosphere. This ecosystem is now under threat by the development of the Alberta Tar Sands, the largest oil reserves outside of Saudi Arabia. By both releasing carbon and scraping the carbon-neutralizing Boreal Forest off the face of the earth, the Tar Sands create a pollution double negative.
All proceeds from art sales during Boreal Future will be donated to the Sierra Club .
Exhibition related events include an opening reception, a presentation by Garth Lenz, and a special advance screening of the documentary Tipping Point.
