The Board of Trustees announce the appointment of Dr. Michael W. Schantz as the Heckscher Museum of Art’s new Executive Director effective November 1.
Michael has more than 25 years of experience as the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Woodmere Art Museum in Philadelphia where he helped to transform Woodmere from a volunteer-run art center into a fully-accredited art museum. He was selected by the Museum’s Search Committee, consisting of Museum Trustees and staff plus arts and community members, under the leadership of Museum Trustee, Bette Schneiderman.
Michael has extensive experience in all aspects of museum operations, from exhibitions to educational programs to fund-raising and community relations. He has been very involved in Philadelphia community activities as former Chairman of the Philadelphia Mayor’s Art Advisory Board and a Board member of Historic Northwest Coalition. He is also a member of the Museum Council of Philadelphia, Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, Arts & Business Council of Philadelphia and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums and is a Peer Reviewer for the American Association of Museums (AAM).
