Austin Art Space Artists Presentl Exhibition at Texas Performing Arts Center

The visual arts will complement the performing arts at the Bass Concert Hall on University of Texas campus when the work of all nine Austin Art Space Resident Artists goes up on May 4, 2010. A total of 36 pieces will be hung along the Orchestra Level hallway and on the second floor open area on free-standing panels. The special exhibition is part of an on-going program curated by the Texas Performing Arts Bass Gallery Committee.

Valerie Walden, co-founder and manager of Austin Art Space said; “We’re honored to be chosen for the exhibition. To our knowledge, it’s the only time that all the artists represented at a single gallery have had their work shown together. It’s quite a validation of our concept as an artist’s co-operative.”

Each of the gallery’s nine artists will have four pieces in the show. The work ranges from larger paintings 30 inches by 60 inches to smaller sizes of 9 inches by 12 inches. The collection includes oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media and photography. And, it ranges from figurative to landscape, from impressionistic to realistic, from contemporary to experimental.

Jan Knox, another co-founder added, “We’re especially excited to be able to expose our work to such a large and varied audience. And, I really mean varied. The Bass schedule during our exhibit includes A Chorus Line, pop rockers Bare Naked Ladies, classic rocker Neil Young, a musical version of The Wizard of OZ, and opera tenor Jose Carreras. Thousands of very different people will be attending those events.”

The special exhibit is open to ticketed patrons during all Bass Concert Hall performances and to the general public Monday through Friday 11:00 am – 2:00 pm without charge. The exhibit closes on July25, 2010.
